Hobbes' flawed game-theoretic argument for government
Argument for a Leviathan:
- When power is roughly equally distributed among actors, best strategy to attack each other frequently
- When power is extremely unequal, ie centralized in government, best strategy is to cooperate peacefully.
Hobbes has his game theory exactly backwards; costs of violence is greatest when powers are roughly matched.
Follow-ups
- Government killed > 100 million of their own people in 20C, more than all non-government murders combined
